It all depends if your My Cloud device features a USB port, but as I can see on the official website, these devices have Gigabit connection port that can be used to transfer the files. There is no USB support which means USB connectivity is not possible. You still have to get through router to transfer the files from the available sources.
This software tool is an important component that allows you to easily access and interface with the My Book World Edition, WD ShareSpace and My Book Live network attached storage products along with the WD TV Live products. WD Link provides quick access to the web user interface to configure drives.
Just wondering: (1) if it is already installed on my WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (there's no mention of it in the User Manual) and (2) if there's any point in installing it on my computer (which is on the same wireless network as the Player) and if so, what for?

The tool will scan the network and add the drives on the network on your My Computer. If you already have access to your drives, then there is no need for this application to be installed in your computer. However, you can download it by visiting the Western Digital website page for your product.
